About Atlas — A real team, with real leadership
About Atlas

Nobody leaves without a real answer.

That is the whole reason this team exists. Not a decision read off a screen, not a rejection with no explanation behind it — a real answer from a person who has looked at the whole picture. And if the answer is not yes today, a plan that makes it yes tomorrow.

Why we exist

A team, not a roster.

Every application represents a family, a dream and a story. Most of the mortgage industry is organised around processing those files quickly. Atlas is organised around making sure they end well — including the ones where the path is not straightforward.

So we built the team accordingly. Leadership you can actually reach, an operations group that has been together more than twenty years, and loan officers who are trained rather than left to work it out. The standard belongs to the team, not to any one person on it.

The best loan officers are not just technically excellent. They are genuinely invested in the people they serve. That is what we hire for, and it is what we teach — because better-equipped professionals mean better-served borrowers.

“Ask the questions other lenders do not. Keep looking when others have stopped.” The Atlas Team

The leadership

Two careers behind a team built to outlast them.

Leslie and Dwayne came to this from different directions — four decades of VA lending and leadership on one side, two decades of top-producing origination in Houston on the other. Sixty years between them. What they share is a refusal to let a borrower walk away without an answer, and that is the part they have spent years teaching to everyone else.

  • Multi-State Lending

Over four decades in the mortgage industry, and the title her clients gave her rather than one she chose. Personally licensed across twenty-three states, specialising in VA lending, and working alongside an operations team that has been together more than twenty years.

A devoted wife, mother of two and “Mimi” to four grandchildren, she understands what it means to build stable foundations for the people you love. Her servant heart has a particular place for military families.

Her working mantra is simple: celebrate the wins, guide the not-right-now situations, and build action plans for future buyers. The approach combines active listening, problem-solving and genuine care — reviewing a family's complete financial picture rather than a single number on a page.

Outside work she supports charities aligned with that same servant heart, and rescues dogs. Hundreds over her lifetime, most of them becoming foster fails.

“Listening and solving for yes.”

Dwayne Graham, Co-Founder and Branch Manager

  • Luxury & Jumbo
  • Investment Properties

He has sat on both sides of the closing table. He knows what it feels like to be the buyer making one of the biggest financial decisions of their life, and what it takes to be the professional making it happen. That dual perspective makes him an advocate rather than an originator.

Over twenty years across Houston and the surrounding communities have made him one of the region's top-producing loan officers — not by chasing numbers, but by caring about outcomes. First-time buyers, veterans using a hard-earned benefit, FHA families, and jumbo or investment clients all get the same thing from him.

Clients point to four reasons he stands out: he closes fast, he educates at every step, he finds creative solutions where others hit dead ends, and he treats every client as a long-term relationship rather than a file.

He is also the reason the operations side of Atlas runs the way it does, and why a file here tends to close rather than stall.

“Every client is a relationship, not a transaction.”

What we stand for

Five things we will not trade away.

These are not wall decoration. They are the things a client or a colleague can hold us to, and the things we hire and train against.

i.

Honesty and transparency

You will hear the real number, the real timeline and the real obstacle, including when none of them is what you hoped for. Every cost is on the table before the closing table. A lender who softens the truth early only moves the disappointment somewhere more expensive.

ii.

Service and a servant heart

Lead by putting the other person first — whether that is a first-time buyer who does not know what escrow means yet, or a new loan officer on their first file. Servant leadership is the founding instinct here, and it is not reserved for the people who are ready to transact.

iii.

Education

Education is not a lead magnet on this team. It is the actual job. Plenty of the people we speak to are not buying this year, and we would rather spend the time anyway — because someone who understands the process makes better decisions with it, whenever they get there.

iv.

Driven

Care without momentum is just sympathy. Files here move, calls get returned, and the follow-up happens whether or not you chase it. The energy that makes a loan close on time is the same energy that gets a difficult file restructured rather than abandoned.

v.

Solutions-based grit

We are specialists in second looks. If someone has been turned away, we want to know exactly why, and then work on changing the answer. A file that does not work today gets a written plan for the version of it that does — and a person who checks back in until you get there.

The promise

What you can count on, every time.

Five things that do not change with the loan type, the state you are buying in, or which member of the team picks up the phone. If we ever fall short of one of them, we would rather you told us.

  • A real answer, not a rejection

If the file does not work today, you get the reason and the route — not a one-line decline.

  • You will understand it before you sign it

Nothing gets signed on this team that has not been explained in plain English first.

  • No handoffs

The person who starts with you stays with you, from the first conversation to the keys.

  • Licensed where you are buying

You will be matched with a loan officer licensed in your state, or told plainly that we cannot help there.

  • It closes when we say it will

Dates get set on what the file can actually do, and then they get held.

The operations team

The part of the team you never see.

Behind every loan officer at Atlas is an operations group that has worked together for more than twenty years. Same people, same standards, thousands of files. That is unusual in this industry, and it is the single biggest reason a file here moves the way it does.

Processing, underwriting coordination, documentation, the chasing that nobody enjoys — it is handled by people who have seen the problem before and know which one it is. Borrowers feel it as a closing date that holds. Loan officers feel it as the freedom to do the job they were hired for.

Operations that run like a pit crew. Our operations team is what lets a loan officer go and do sales activity instead of worrying about their files.

“Twenty years together. It is not a department, it is a habit.” The Atlas Team

Powered by Lower

The name behind the paperwork.

Atlas is the team you work with. Lower, LLC is the lender behind it — the licensing, the capital and the compliance that a mortgage has to sit on. You will see the Lower name on your disclosures and on our email addresses, and that is exactly where it belongs.

What it means in practice: the backing and product range of a national lender, with the people, the standards and the phone numbers of a team you can actually reach.

Where we lend

Coverage that took years to build.

A licensing footprint is one of the hardest things for a competing team to replicate, because it cannot be bought quickly. Ours has been built state by state over four decades, and it is still growing.

Licensing is held individually, not by the team as a whole. The twenty-three states above are Leslie Bergen's personal licensing; Dwayne Graham is licensed in Texas. Every other loan officer holds their own licences, so coverage varies by person. Tell us where you are buying and we will put you with someone licensed there.

Every route home

Whichever side of the desk you are on.

If you are buying, tell us where you are and we will find the way. If you originate for a living and you have been waiting for a team that would back you properly, that conversation is open too.
